General remarks about your flight:
There were two brand-new R66 helicopters with less than 100 hrs each before start. No floats so we used life rafts
and suites while crossed the North Atlantic. We used aux fuel tanks located at luggage compartment and could fly up to 5 hrs without refuelling.
The most difficult problem in the flight was to get a TSA (USA) permission to cross Alaska – there is a special NOTAM:
Russian registry aircrafts can fly in the US airspace IFR only, and R66 is not approved for IFR. We had 43 overnight stops ÷
but our friends spent 44 nights at the same period of time. It's because we started at 11:00 a.m. 01.09.13 at Nome, Alaska
and landed 3 hours later at 10:00 a.m. 02.09.13 at Providenia Bay, Russia.
The weather en route was good enough ÷ we didn't lose even 10 minutes because of the weather in the whole flight.
Advice to other pilots:
R66 seems a good machine to make long distance flights. Jet A-1 is available everywhere and is not so expensive like AVGAS.
The main problem for Russian Earthrounders is crossing the US airspace VFR, the main problem for others is the same about Russia.
